Day of mourning for memecoins. Internet memes appeared quickly after the popularization of the World Wide Web, and they provide a variety of inspirations. Thus, the photo of a smiling Shiba Inu dog inspired the Dogecoin (DOGE) logo in 2013. The very first memecoin was born, that is to say, a cryptocurrency whose popularity is mainly based on Internet memes. But the iconic dog—which is also a female—of this logo, called Kabosu, unfortunately died on May 24, 2024.
WHEN THE IMAGE OF A DOG, WHICH BECAME AN INTERNET MEME, FOUNDED A CRYPTOCURRENCY
There was almost no need to give you the image below, so well-known was the smiling face of this Shiba Inu dog. First an Internet meme, then quickly becoming the icon of Dogecoin since 2013, Kabosu has left its mark on the cryptocurrency sector.
Although initially launched as a crypto-joke parodying Bitcoin (BTC), DOGE has been able to build a loyal and lasting community over the years, which has even managed to attract the whimsical billionaire Elon Musk, the famous CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Dogecoin is undeniably the precursor of all the memecoin-type cryptos that followed, such as Shiba Inu (SHIB), Pepe the Frog (PEPE), or more recently, DogWifHat (WIF).
DOGECOIN’S SMILING IMAGE KABOSU HAS JOINED THE DOG PARADISE
Unfortunately, “Kabosumama,” Kabosu’s mistress, announced that the iconic dog, who had reached the ripe age of 18, did not wake up on May 24, 2024. The sad news was relayed by the official account on X of Dogecoin:
“Today, Kabosu, the friend and source of inspiration for our community, passed away peacefully in the arms of her mistress. This dog’s impact on the entire world is immeasurable.
He was a being who only knew happiness and limitless love.
Keep her spirit and her family in your heart and, above all, carry her with you into the rest of your story—because we are all lucky that hers touched and shaped ours.Kabosu has left us, but even if memecoins somehow lose their “founders,” the DOGE crypto community is bigger than ever. Through the Dogecoin logo, this Shiba Inu with a smiling face will be remembered long after this sad day. Rest in peace, Kabosu.
